Company History
Zenair was founded by Chris Heintz in Canada in 1974. From the start, Zenair offered drawings and kits to self-building enthusiasts who were keen on assembling their own recreational aircraft. As CEO and chief engineer, Chris introduced a new aircraft design every few years while Zenair manufactured the airframe kits for it. Spanning over 40 years, Zenair has produced kits for a number of different models including single-seat aircraft, two, three and four-seat aircraft, low-wing and high-wing designs, ultralights, and most recently, certified VLA and LSA aircraft. The company also developed a full line of straight and amphibious all-metal floats for light aircraft of all kinds.

Zenair is now one of the most experienced and well-established light aircraft manufacturers in the world, with many kits now also produced in the USA by Zenith Aircraft Company. In Europe, you can call any one of the company's 20 representatives to take advantage of Zenair's unmatched expertise and experience! See why so many have already chosen a "Zenair"!

Today, Zenair is continuing this proud tradition of light aircraft design and manufacturing. There are a number of facilities around the world that manufacture Zenair kits under license, and a growing interest in ready-to-fly Zenair sportplanes. For a while, AMD manufactured certified Zenair LSA designs for the US market; today, ICP is manufacturing a certified Zenair ULM design for the European market. In close collaboration with its growing network of regional representatives, Zenair is well positioned to continue expanding in the direction envisioned by its founder extra-ordinaire.

Over the years, Zenair has received the prestigious Federation Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) Honorary Group Diploma for "greatly contributing to the progress of aviation"; Chris Heintz was inducted into the EAA "Hall of Fame" in 1999.
